Women in their reproductive years should consult a doctor, nurse, pharmacist or local public health office about recommended immunization before and during pregnancy and breast-feeding.

- Check the need for all recommended vaccines for adults including:
measles-mumps-rubella, varicella, tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis, hepatitis A & B, meningococcal, pneumococcal, HPV, influenza
- Check for vaccines that are contraindicated or not recommended
examples: measles-mumps-rubella, varicella, yellow fever, HPV - All other vaccines are considered safe and should be reviewed
- Most vaccines are safe while breast-feeding
- Immunization status of all household contacts of the newborn should also be reviewed
